The greatest challenge in caring for young adults is to never forget their aspirations for independence as much as their physical, neurological or other impairment may allow.

Askham has a triple actions policy in the care of the Young Physically Disabled:

  • For us to provide a safe living environment with access to clinical care that is defined through an assessment of the individual (what the clinicians in the health sector call person centred care)
  • For the resident to engage with us in defining their needs to be able to live as fulfilling a life as is viable; this may include self determined educational, developmental and enjoyment activities through to menu systems and support regimens
  • For us and the resident to engage in the business of caring where this is possible and/or viable or if the resident wishes to actively contribute to improvements that would benefit all residents and help with communications such as newsletters
